from Tracey's writing prompt "Contained in a prison of perceived powerlessness"

I love where you went with this Shannon! The turn/twist of the last line is simply quite awesome and mane me say, "wow" when I reached the end. Great job with the prompt.

I am orbiting, I don't know where, but I am orbiting something!

Great work, Shanster! When I read this out loud a "hear" a few things slightly different. What I hear may or may not appeal to  you -- certainly this is fine as is.

I sat and I pondered, then pondered and sat
Stroked idly the soft silky hair of my cat

Paws drowsily twitching in feigned dream prowess
While I stayed imprisoned - perceived powerlessness

I paced up the hallway, then paced back again
Brain waves rapidly moving - mundane to insane

Took three hours, two minutes, a bad Charlie horse
and six shuffled steps 'fore I finally changed course

Just one more brief moment to wallow in pity
A sigh and a smile, a misstep on the kitty

I shook my head clear and I took back my life
And I cut through the fraying red tape with a knife

Now those prison bars are irreparably bent
And my soul is no longer a space for cheap rent
