You have a real mastery of the human in all its unpleasantness, and the relatively straightforward language of this makes it all the more poignant. 

I only really have one suggestion -- how about instead of "Sometimes when the television is flickering" you try "Sometimes when the television flickers"?  Oh, and gases is one s.  Otherwise, it's all brilliant, with a particularly powerful ending.
