With all due respect Anstey, screw you.   Once I write something, it's not up to me to tell people what it's about.  I'm not big on explaining.  If you get something from it, and it's not what I expected, I don't care.  If you get nothing from it, well, I'm not going to die then either (but you suck as a reader).  But I'm damned sure I'm not going to write with a heavier hand and make my metaphors completely transparent so that readers don't have to work a little.  If you don't work a bit, you're not going to appreciate it.
