Absorption

For failings, fallings, a lifetime's welling sorrows -

your guilty pools gathered in my hollows;

I sponged your tears with endless sympathy;

you seeped beneath my limestone breast

where calciferous bone has ossified the pain.
All that timeless rain and moonlit leaching

dissolved a cavernous gloom inside.

On moonless nights, I hear the darkness dripping;

and like some reckless caver drawn to murk,

I enter down the echoes carved by hurt

to feel your stalactites pierce my chambers.

Stephan likes his poems

Without the aid of a pump

But I ask you, my friend

What do you do with the lumps??
Finnegan poops in mustardy stanzas

Always in messy threes

When I asked him about line breaks

He pooped upon my knees
Meghan burps her ABC’s

And giggles when she’s done

Then she sings in syllables

Thick with witty pun
Logan whines in rhythm

As he walks in time

Of every emotional melody

And the odd poetic rhyme

allow me to come undone, softly

in the subtle light where my eyes begin to dance

sing to me of beauty and desire

until i remember how freedom tastes

then read my heart aloud

knowing every word is painted in your colors

hold me close in hard silence

so your breath may rest against my skin

until love is the voice we hold to our lips

let my mouth ache for you

as summer begins to fold in upon itself

allow me to come undone, quietly

where there is no threat of war on my hands

or garland of thorn about my feet

wait for me here in my unraveling

so that i may kiss you and again until

i find the forgiveness to love you loudly

Cascading flash tripping down

tenor tone bounces jumping, leaping from the head

Muted squawk interjects tart exclamation point piercing the run

swing back through an alto weave darting across the ride

Flurry breaks to a mellow coronet conversation

answers, melding into the flow of low swing

Low pulse thumps and rises, countering

flash and blaze of harmonized conversation

Bounding back to the final declaration

in a haze of blurred euphony

Disconnected

In this disinfected

Hollowed out pumpkin shell

Where nothin’ but candy corn

Fills the empty spaces
Automated smiles

Across endless miles

Of wishing wells and welling wishers

Here at the northern star
And the man in the moon

Who just like me, took up the spoon

Milked the cow and even now

Froze the cream, forgot to dream

And on the dish

He ate every wish

What’s inside my assorted names?

Now let’s all go and play this game

Which is the sobriquet in this life?

What’s inside my assorted names?

Mother, daughter, sister, wife
