he mulls hard work and long sighs
under the shade of evergreen
spilling their branches like children laughing
he eats the years and the love
like a caterpillar on the leaf of a weed
too beautiful to be a flower
he waits with his weeping wounds for daylight
and the roses on the trellis to bloom
on last time before a warm meal and sunset.
