What a Let Down

After floating in balmy darkness
for nine months
in gravid contentment
squeezed through some crushing tunnel
for twelve hours
then blinking out [hazard] lights and
gulping down foreign air
voices blast my newborn ears
and someone smacks me
about the rear
only to sit around for forty years
waiting for something to happen
I find life
such a disappointment.

It could be worse... they could have smacked you so hard you couldn't sit around for forty years.

I wonder if we gestate with great expectations, only to have them eroded by other people being disappointed at not having achieved their own expectations in some great cycle of inadequacy?  Or perhaps we're more disappointed that other people achieve their expectations because they're set so much lower.  I advise chocolate.

I advise chocolate plus a good spanking every month. That's Papa Smurf's recipe for a long and active life.

The problem is the waiting room music.
