Birds and Bees

I was told at another site that this is too scary for kids. I'd like to know what you guys think.

Chirped the bird to the bee,
"Stop by my tree

At a quarter to three
And have a cup of tea."

"Oh how lovely!"

Buzzed the bee.

"At a quarter to three

I’ll bring honey for tea."
"Delightful!"

Cheeped the bird.

At a quarter to three

There was buzz at the tree.
It was the bee

With honey for tea.

"Oh gee!"

Hummed the bee,

"The tables set for three.

I only have honey for you and me.
Who else is coming for tea?"

Squawked the bird to the bee,
"You and me

And my baby makes three!"
Crunch!
Crunch!
Crunch!
Went the bee.

Too scary for kids?  What planet are they living on?  Look at the most popular children's books and it's obvious that kids can deal with it -- probably more than those bleeding heart liberal morons... Oops, ranting.

I like this one, Jen.  Instead of "there was a buzz at the tree" maybe you'd think about "came a buzz at the tree" just for rhythm purposes -- otherwise it's all good.

I think it's too much for little kids, but that pre-adolescents into that kind of wicked surprise would like it. I'm thinking kids who are into Goosebumps or Lemony Snicket or writing in that vein.

I think it could inspire kids who turn their noses up at the very thought of poetry to give it a go, and maybe even try their hands at it.

P.S. I'm also seeing how it could actually be a fun way to explain things in nature. The poem and illustration, then a few words about the food chain, for example.

I really don't think it's that bad for kids in school. Maybe pre-schoolers it's too much, but even then, I think it's part of nature. It's not that bad.

Actually, if you titled this in some pedagogic clothing, it could work fine...teach kids to be careful of strangers...
(and poets too).
Perhaps - Bees Should Be Careful or The Bee Who Wasn't Careful
Alcuin

I very much like this idea. But i'm big on titles.
