across the sand to the shore

just as hightide slapped the highest point
and receded back
undertow in tow

the wind was blowing your hair
so you walked backwards
with huge steps
while gesturing wildly with both arms
and singing old muppets songs

people looked at us,
i'm sure

but
like always
neither of us cared at all.
