What makes a poem good?

I agree with Alciun, but I also think it comes down to personal experience and preference that makes a poem "good" or "bad" to a reader.

For instance, I'm a mother.  So poetry that has been written past and present about real things that happen in daily life appeal to me.  they may not appeal to a single man who doesn't like children. (I don't really like children either but that's beside the point!)

Since I am an amateur when it comes to poetry too, I can't answer your question with any subject matter expertise, but it's a great question, that I've often wondered myself.
