The Winner of the First Simian Award of 2007

It is with great pride and pleasure that I announce the winner of the first Shakespeare’s Monkey Simian Award of 2007: Amanda Baker takes the prize for her poem, “For the Sake of Sounding.”

As winner of the contest Amanda Baker receives $100, publication in the debut issue of Shakespeare's Monkeys Revue, and qualification for Shakespeare's Monkey’s $100 prize for best poem of the year in December. Honorable Mention goes to Carol Lucas for her poem “Number 14.” I would also like to commend all the contestants for the high quality of work submitted, allowing this to be a great success.

Fondly,
Stephan Anstey

Poetry Pushers....hmmm...there has to be a poem in there somewhere.

Thank you both very much, I am truely honored.  Amazing things happen when you stop telling yourself they won't. Funny how that works.

Don't listen to him, he sold me crap.

I went and read your poem, it seriously deserved to win, it's fantastic.

Amanda's poem has such a great emotional grab-me-gotcha at the end, subtle and yet incredibly powerful. Carol's descriptive writing 'swunnerful.

This was a distinct pleasure, and (forget that crap Stephan sells) I send champagne soaked congrats to you both!
