Anstey: Well, yes, he's ONLY the man who single handedly reinvented the way poetry was thought about and allowed it to be HUMAN. The man who brought back the satirical wit of the Greeks and put it into English alongside some of the most beautiful love poems ever written. The man who used his art to explore the human condition and man's place in the universe using his own intellect and not the scriptures. Who the hell is John Donne? |

I knew his poems from childhood but in college I had a course in the "Metaphysical Poets" and Donne's verses became embedded in my emotional being. Marvell's too. I am happy to know we share this. |
