More in Skating Rink Hearts

from "Music", by Amy Lowell

I wish I had written this...

The neighbour sits in his window and plays the flute.
From my bed I can hear him,
And the round notes flutter and tap about the room,
And hit against each other,
Blurring to unexpected chords.
It is very beautiful,
With the little flute-notes all about me,
In the darkness.

"And the round notes flutter and tap about the room"

This one line gives a wonderful sense of three-dimensional music filling the room, like moths in the night. In the repeated ts I hear the tongueing of the player as he forms the notes, giving them life.  And the last three lines would almost stand on their own as a haiku.
